Does your old wooden floor need a fresh new look?

Painting an old wooden floor with Frenchic Paint is a quick, affordable, and environmentally friendly way to create a beautiful, durable, and personal finish.

With all our wonderful shades at your disposal, you can create stunning spaces in every room of your home. Our matte paints harmonize with the atmosphere of old houses, and many of our shades resemble traditional domestic heritage colors.

Boldly choose a colorful or gentle pastel floor shade.

Consumption

Our wall paint series is officially tested and approved for painting wooden floors, and a handy 2.5-liter container covers about 36m2 in one coat.

You can paint smaller floor areas, for example, with Al Fresco series paints; a 750ml can covers about 13m2 in one coat. When calculating consumption, note that all Frenchic Paints are to be applied at least twice.

A new untreated wooden surface absorbs more paint than normal consumption.

Because the wall paint series paints are also washable, they are well suited for painting wooden floors. Our wall paints have been granted ISO classification, abrasion resistance class 1, and have won the best washable paint award.

The yellow checkerboard floor in the picture was painted in the shade Honeycombe.

Why paint an old wooden floor?

Painting an old wooden floor extends the floor's lifespan and brings a completely new look to the room. Compared to replacing the floor, painting saves money and is an environmentally smart choice. A colorful floor doesn't have to be flashy; it can be subtle and stylish – and not always gray. The floor in the picture was chosen in a pastel aqua shade Breezing.

How to succeed – step-by-step wooden floor painting:

1. Prepare the floor carefully
Remove dirt and dust, and wash the floor thoroughly using an effective and economical cleaning agent, such as Sugar Soap.

2. Sand and prime if necessary
If the floor surface is particularly worn or uneven, light sanding and the use of a leveling primer may be necessary. Vacuum and mop sanding dust away before painting.

3. Protect the surroundings and move furniture out of the way
You don't always need to remove the moldings. Protect baseboards and lower parts of walls carefully with painter's tape and use protective paper or plastic. You can also paint the moldings with our paints.

4. Apply the first coat
Stir the paint thoroughly, including the bottom of the can. Apply the paint normally and evenly with a quality brush or roller. Let the paint layer dry according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually about 2-4 hours. Proceed with the painting work board by board, painting lengthwise.

5. Apply the second coat
A second coat strengthens the color and durability. Let it dry thoroughly, preferably overnight before using the floor.

6. Finish the surface
If desired, you can protect the painted floor further with wax or varnish to increase durability.

Tips for successful floor painting:

  • Careful preparation is the key to a successful result.
    * Use quality tools and work with normal paint layers, avoid layers that are too thick.
  • Plan the progress of the painting work before starting.
    * Let the paint dry properly so the floor withstands wear for a long time.

Consider surface wear and usage before painting

  • Is a previously painted floor surface particularly worn in some spots?
  • Do you need a rug to protect the painted kitchen floor from chair movement?
  • The painted floor surface in the hallway wears quickly from sand and walking with shoes without a rug for protection.
  • Painted floors should be maintained and cleaned with mild detergents. Avoid strong cleaning solutions and steam cleaning on painted surfaces.
