Painting stairs – tips for a durable and beautiful finish
Painting stairs with Frenchic paints quickly gives your home a new look. Painting stairs is easy but takes some time and planning, especially if the stairs see heavy daily use.

Preparing for painting stairs

Protect and prepare the workspace
- Protect your environment carefully.
- Remove obstacles such as hooks and nails, and tape the edges with high-quality painter's tape.
- Wash the stairs and railings thoroughly with Sugar Soap and let dry.
- Lightly sand glossy surfaces and remove dust.

Painting phase
- Do the priming with a roller, finish the edges with a brush.
- Apply at least two coats, follow the drying times on the paint can (usually 2 hours between coats).

Finishing and protection
- Add Frenchic's matte Tuff Top Coat finishing coat to the stair paint surface to protect it from wear.
- Let the surface dry calmly for 48 hours before use and handle the surfaces carefully for about three weeks, during which the paint reaches its final hardness.
Create beautiful interior elements from the stairs
- You can leave the beautiful wood surface visible and combine it with painted parts. The result is a modern look.
- Tape stylish stripes on the stairs. Colored stripes are especially suitable for old buildings and stairs of post-war houses.
- Paint the stair tread and frame in different colors.
